Vision Requirements

All first-time Florida drivers, and those renewing their Florida driver’s license, are required to pass a vision test if processed in person.

All drivers 80 years of age or older are required to pass a vision test regardless of where the license is processed (in person, by mail or online). The test may be taken at a Florida driver’s license office at no additional charge. You can also have a doctor, licensed to practice in Florida, or a licensed physician at a federally established veterans’ hospital, administer the vision test. This must be a medical doctor, osteopathic physician, or an optometrist. If the vision test is administered by a doctor, the Mature Driver Vision Test Form must be completed and submitted with your renewal. Out-of–state doctors are not authorized to provide this information.

Upon passing the vision screening, you can complete your renewal process. However, if the exam reveals a problem, you will be requested to have an eye specialist licensed in Florida or a licensed eye specialist at a federally established veterans' hospital complete a Report of Eye Examination prior to being able to renew.
